What Early Detection Costs in Switzerland

When your health insurance pays and when it does not. The overview.

Whether a mammogram costs you anything depends on whether your canton offers an early detection program and whether there is a medical reason for it.

Within a cantonal screening program, basic insurance covers the exam. You only pay the 10 percent copayment, and it does not count toward your deductible. Basic insurance also covers the mammogram when there is a specific suspicion or a family history.

It is different for a purely preventive mammogram outside a program and without a medical indication: that one you usually have to pay for yourself. You can find out which rules apply in your canton in the Vorsorge-Check. Vorsorge-Check
