Alongside the classic treatments, there are modern therapies that target specific features of a tumor. They have clearly improved the outlook for several types of breast cancer.

Targeted therapy goes after particular properties of the tumor cells, for example the HER2 receptor. For HER2 positive tumors, which used to be considered especially aggressive, the prognosis has improved a great deal as a result. Tumor subtypes

Immunotherapy helps the body's own immune system recognize and fight cancer cells. Among other uses, it is given for certain triple negative tumors. Which therapy is an option depends on the exact tumor biology and is decided in the tumor board.
