Radiation Therapy
How targeted radiation fights any remaining tumor cells.
Radiation therapy uses high energy radiation to destroy tumor cells or keep them from growing. It works mainly where it is aimed, sparing the surrounding tissue as much as possible.
After breast conserving surgery, radiation is usually a standard part of treatment. It lowers the risk that the cancer will come back in the same spot. The treatment is given on an outpatient basis over several sessions.
Your care team plans how many sessions you need and which areas are treated, individually for you. Possible side effects like skin irritation or fatigue are usually temporary. Side effects and fatigue
