Breast cancer mostly affects older women, but it does not stop at younger ones. About five percent of all cases occur before age 40, and more than three quarters from age 50 on. At the same time, data suggest that the number is rising among women under 45.
In young women, the breast tissue is often dense, which makes a mammogram harder to read. That is why routine mammograms are usually not recommended under 50. It is all the more important to know your own body and to take changes seriously. Breast self-exam in 5 steps
